Radio show expands with podcast

88Nine Radio Milwaukee (WYMS-FM) is expanding its flagship Community Stories program to a weekly podcast titled “Single Milwaukee.” The show has been on the radio since 2007.

The launch of the podcast is part of Radio Milwaukee’s 15th anniversary celebrations this year. The first episode of “Uniquely Milwaukee” centers around the city’s bodegas and is available on all major podcast streaming platforms.

“Community stories are a beloved part of Radio Milwaukee. By expanding this content into a weekly themed podcast, ‘Uniquely Milwaukee’ will dramatically increase the amount of stories we can share with listeners,” said Nate Imig, Chief Content Officer, Radio Milwaukee.

“Only Milwaukeewill be hosted by Radio Milwaukee audio storyteller Salam Fatayer. Originally from Palestine, Salam grew up in South Milwaukee until her family moved back to Palestine when she was in 6th grade.

“Spending my formative years in the occupied territories of Palestine really ignited my passion for storytelling,” Fatayer said. “It’s an honor to share someone’s story and give listeners authentic perspectives from different viewpoints.”

Imig will serve as executive producer for “Milwaukee only.With more than a decade of experience leading Radio Milwaukee’s Community Stories program, Nate has produced hundreds of audio stories for the station and its website. Imig also served as executive producer of Radio Milwaukee’s long-running podcasts “Backspin”, “By Every Measure”, and two seasons of “Diverse Disruptors”.

New episodes of the podcast will be released every Monday.
