Frank Ocean recorded his first episode of Blonded RADIO in two years on Saturday (December 25), giving fans some new material for Christmas. The half-hour show, dubbed “blonde xmas”, features a previously recorded conversation between Ocean, whose brother Ryan Moore died last year, and Dutch motivational speaker Wim “Iceman” Hof about managing the mourning.
“Me and @iceman_hof had a conversation a while ago when I was in the early stages of grieving and remember marveling afterwards at how his energy exploded through the phone,” wrote revealed Ocean on her Instagram Stories. “So much vim in this Wim. We talked for a while about his work, the purpose of grief, and how going into cold water changed his life. It reminded me of conversations in the studio with players I know. Free, psychedelic, emotionally charged, intelligent and generous.
“I enjoyed listening to him, so in this edit, I let him speak uninterrupted,” added Ocean. “Me, @coryhenry and @dylanpatricewiggins played some sounds below to increase the sentiment. I added some writing at the end that I did a single take of w Cory in the summer of 2020. Came back and j I added a few words and parts above this take more recently. I felt like it matched the wabi sabi of Wim’s words. Merry Christmas everyone.”
Fans who missed the reclusive singer will be delighted to hear Ocean freestyles on a piano for nearly nine minutes during Apple Music 1. escape, I can escape,” he repeatedly raps.
The last time we heard Frank on Blonded Radio was Christmas Eve 2019. In this episode, also titled “Blonded Xmas”, Ocean created an eclectic playlist featuring Mariah Carey, Solange, the Dungeon Family, George Harrison and The Miracles.
